Upper Michigan Lake Rentals.com

Fall in Upper Michigan is amazing!!!  The fall colors are beautiful and the fishing is great.  People tend to forget that this is a wonderful time to schedule a family vacation.  It is the perfect time to look into lake rentals.   As I have mentioned in previous posts, we have been going up to the UP for many years and Fall is one of my favorite times of year.  The weather is starting to change, the leaves are starting to turn colors and winter is just around the corner.  We are starting to get more and more inquiries for Fall rentals at our Ramsey Island Lodge property.  I can definitely understand why!!!  It is BEAUTIFUL!!!  Granted, you may be at the mercy of the weather once and a while, but it is worth it.  Nothing beats the 360 degree view of the lake from Ramsey Island.  For this time of year, I recommend that you have access to a boat with a canopy or bring some rain gear just in case.  If you do not own a boat, let me know and I can help you make arrangements accordingly.  I have a couple boats that you can rent and can also get you in touch with a couple other rental sources.  Here is a view from the Main Lodge as the leaves start to turn.  BREATH TAKING!!!!!! 

Color Tours in the UP

 TRIM THE MOTOR!  Lake Michigamme is an amazing lake for fishing and boating.  The fishing is amazing and the water is very clean.  Note:  The water is not overly clear due to the tannins in the water.  This gives it a kind of tea brown color.  I have been going up to Lake Michigamme for many years because we have an island lodge on the lake that is available for vacation rentals throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall.  The main island lodge typically books up for a majority of this time with rentals, but we still manage to find time to stay up there ourselves.  We have spent many wonderful weeks on the island and in the outlying areas. 

With that said, I would like to throw out some advice to anyone looking to go boating on Lake Michigamme.  Do not be afraid to trim your motor!!!!  We had 3 props chewed up this past rental season.  Embarrassingly, one of them was by me and I know the lake.  Lake Michigamme is a large, deep and rocky lake.   but there are some areas that will take off your lower unit or chew up a prop in no time!!!   Take your time going out and coming into the docks.  Watch for buoys and other markers as you navigate around the lake.  There are a few spots with fairly large rocks near the surface out in the middle of the lake and in some of the various little coves.  When you are planning your trip to Lake Michigamme, purchase or download a map of the lake and take note of the shallows.  We keep a couple such maps in the Ramsey Island Lodge for our renters to use while they are up there.  You can also buy them at the local Michigamme Market & Gas Station.

The lake is very well marked during the main summer months.  (Memorial Day through Labor Day)  If your lake vacation is before or after those dates, you need to keep an eye out for the rocky areas because most or all of the markers are not in place.  If you are staying on Ramsey Island, you need to be careful not to go between Ramsey Island and the little “scrub” islands that are on the North West side.  It may look like a short cut, but you will most likely take out your lower unit or end up buying a new prop.  You can see what looks like a couple of little islands jutting out near the North West corner of Ramsey Island on the following map.  GO AROUND THEM not in between!!!!

With that said, the fishing in that little cove is very good.  In fact, fishing just about anywhere around Ramsey Island is good!

4th of July is probably one of our most busy times of the year for lake rentals and inquiries.  The 4th of July week typically books up very early in the year.  It is a wonderful time on Lake Michigamme and a great place for vacation rentals.  There are so many things to do in the area.  Michigamme has their 4th of July festival and parade, which is a BLAST!!!!  You definitely need to check it out.  There are games, a parade, great food and tons of really nice people to meet.  Don’t forget the lake boat parade and fireworks!!!  Similar events are going on in other nearby towns as well.  The weather is usually great during this time of year for boating, swimming, fishing and just about anything else that you can think of.  If you are looking for a good meal in the area that won’t break the bank, check out Mt. Shasta!

Ramsey Island is in the heart of all the action, but secluded enough that you can get away from it all.  If you want to fish, but don’t feel like going out on the boat, you can fish from any of the numerous docks and fishing spots on the island.  Check out Lake Michigamme and Ramsey island for your next 4th of July vacation.  (Or, any other time!!!!!)
